Maximus

Some of the most powerful psychology in tech lives inside betting apps, and it's almost never used for anything good. Maximus is my attempt to change that.

  • used to be called Kairos
  • pitched at a startup round table
  • goes public at 3,000 taps
The Startup Round Table at VentureStudio, Ahmedabad University: everyone around the boardroom table. Dhyey is in the middle, in a white t-shirt.that's me.

01Six hours a day, out loud

Back in high school I gave myself a challenge: study six-plus hours, every single day. And I posted it on my Instagram stories.

Then something I didn't expect happened. People started joining in.

Suddenly it wasn't just me against my own discipline. Other people were doing it too, and I really didn't want to be the one who stopped.

that bit of competition did more than any timetable.

02What betting gets right

Betting has a bad reputation. Most of it, fairly earned.

But look at what it does to people: something on the line, other people watching, and a reason to care about the outcome right now. That's a lot of pull.

So what if you took the mechanics of a social taboo and pointed them somewhere good?

Not at a match. Not at a card table. At yourself.

03Bet on yourself

That's Maximus (it used to be called Kairos): a social accountability app where the thing you're betting on is you.

turns out you try harder with skin in the game.

04The first time I showed a room

Before university started, VentureStudio at AU hosted a Startup Round Table. I pitched Maximus there, and the people who got excited got a demo.

Moments from the Startup Round Table: Dhyey at the table, and others listening and talking.

It's built. It's just not public yet.

… / 3,000 taps

Each tap counts towards 3,000. At 3,000 taps, it goes public.
same deal as Atlas: 3,000 taps and it goes public.

Building something interesting?

I'd like to hear about it. Whether it still needs building, needs to make sense, or needs people to actually use it.

(or just tell me what you're building. I'm curious.)
